Real Love Stories: A Candid Connection
Meg Lizabet’s Real Love Stories is an interview series dedicated to retracing our customers’ roads to “yes”—from finding each other, to discovering the ring that symbolizes their journey.
Chapter 1
Jessie & Mike
Mike (he/him) and Jessie (she/her)
How did your adventure together begin?
We have been together for three and a half years, after meeting in the hallway of our condo building.
When did you know you had found “the one”?
It was an instantaneous connection, that both of us still struggle to explain. We just knew, after only a few words.
"We are both very drawn to water, so Meg’s design philosophy felt like home to us.”

Talk about love at first sight! Was there also an instant connection when you found the perfect ring?
I (Mike) spontaneously proposed to Jessie while walking home after dinner one evening. I didn’t even have a ring!
We spent the next day going all over Toronto looking for rings together. When we came across the display case of Meg’s work at Made You Look, we both felt connected to the unique style of her jewellery. We are both very drawn to water, so Meg’s design philosophy felt like home to us.
Luckily, Meg was in the shop at the time and was kind enough to spend some time talking about her art and showcasing some designs. We bought Jessie’s engagement ring on the spot, a beautiful white gold band, with a Montana sapphire, from the Baleal collection.
From there, we started working with Meg on designing our wedding rings.
What was the process like when designing your rings?
Going into the ring purchasing process, we didn’t know what we wanted.
Meg took the time to show us a number of design options, all while asking thoughtful questions about our design preferences and our lives.
After we found the perfect engagement ring, we worked very closely with Meg on designing our wedding bands, from initial concepts, all the way to final production. It was a really enjoyable and interesting process.
“As a commemoration for the day that the wedding was supposed to take place, Meg made us two simple bands, complete with the ‘bubbles’ design that are found on our other rings.”

Tell us all about the ring! Which designs, gemstones, and materials did you choose?
The engagement ring is from the Baleal collection. A white gold band, with a Montana sapphire.
Jessie’s wedding ring is a custom design, built specifically to fit around the engagement ring, but with a contrasting material (yellow gold, with seven diamonds).
Mike’s wedding ring is also custom and complementary to Jessie’s, made with a mix of white and yellow gold, Montana sapphires along with diamonds.
We are just in love with the way all your rings complement each other. So when is the big day?
Our wedding had to be postponed until after the pandemic, but we’re hoping that everything opens back up soon.
As a commemoration for the day that the wedding was supposed to take place, Meg made us two simple bands, complete with the ‘bubbles’ design that are found on our other rings. Just another example of how accommodating Meg was!
We’re so glad to hear you still got a mini celebration despite the pandemic! Finally, was there anything you loved most about working with Meg?
Meg is a great combination of open, inquisitive and friendly, coupled with having a totally unique design aesthetic.
We learned a lot during the process and came away with rings that were more beautiful and interesting than we thought possible.
With a shared affinity for water and its many forms, Jessie and MIke's instant connection was captured in the candid curves and colours of Meg’s Baleal Collection. Working closely with Meg, they designed their own bespoke wedding rings and captured everything that’s unique to their story.
